PRE CONFERENCE TRAINING PROGRAM
7 – 9 NOVEMBER 2009
9am - 4pm daily, includes morning and afternoon tea and box lunch.
Artists in Healthcare, a course for practitioners, presented by Dr Cheryl Dileo, PhD, MT-BC, Professor of Music Therapy and Director, Arts and Quality of Life Research Center, Temple University, Philadelphia and Dr. Joke Bradt, PhD, Assistant Director, Arts and Quality of Life Research Center, Temple University, Philadelphia.
This 3-day course will provide musicians (limited to 15) and visual artists (limited to 15) with basic information and skills needed to assist in preparing them for work in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
The course will be structured to include: lecture, role playing, video examples, demonstrations, and hands-on training in music or visual arts media, along with the development of arts projects suitable for healthcare environments.
Participants will receive a comprehensive Arts in Healthcare Manual and an evaluation of their skills at the end of the course.
Topics addressed in the training will include:
- An Overview of Practice and Current Status of the Arts in Healthcare
- Preparing for Work in Arts and Healthcare
- Implementing Arts in Healthcare Programs
- Personal and Professional Issues
- Evaluating Arts in Healthcare Programs
- Marketing
- Media-specific training (music and visual arts)
Please note: The Artists in Healthcare Training Program is limited to 15 musicians and 15 visual artists. Musicians will be required to bring their musical instrument. Art materials will be supplied.
